The singer-songwriter known as Role Model has covered the Taylor Swift song “Nothing New” and it’s drawing mixed reactions from Swifties.
The clip of Tucker Harrington Pillsbury performing the song, backed by a band, was originally posted on X, formerly Twitter, on March 13 by the fan account The Swift Society, but not all Taylor fans approve.

“what does a man know about nothing new,” posted one fan, with knowledge that the song was written by Swift about how female musicians are treated in the music business.
Phoebe Bridgers recorded the song with Swift and was also an opening act on the Eras Tour where she performed the song live with the superstar. “Nothing New” appears as a “from the vault track” on Swift’s 2021 release Red (Taylor’s Version), the re-recorded and expanded edition of her 2012 album.
Another fan posted simply, “DELETE,” in response to the Role Model clip.
But Role Model does have some supporters. “Is there a full length somewhere? I neeeed it,” one wrote, while another informed them “it’s on youtube!!”
Yet another seemed to prefer the more rocking approach that Role Model takes to Swift’s acoustic original. “i’m sorry, but if nothing new had this kind of production I would like it a lot more,” they wrote.
“The only time I want her songs covered is in a completely different genre like this. Sounds awesome,” wrote another fan.
Another had a violent reaction. “The way I thought that was John Mayer—I f–king GAGGED,” they wrote.

In an interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers in 2021, Swift explained to Seth Meyers how the collaboration with Bridgers on “Nothing New” came about.
“Phoebe Bridgers is one of my favorite artists in the world,” Swift said. “If she sings it, I will listen to it. I love her voice, and I also love that she’s a very funny person,” she added. “I really wanted another female artist who I loved to sing it with me, because I think it was a very female artist perspective … And her response was, ‘I’ve been waiting for this text my entire life.’”
