Sure, we might fall prey to influencers upping the saturation on their beach photos or exaggerating the ‘chicness’ of a city which is actually just a bit shabby, but when you’re hunting for new travel ideas, social media can be a pretty good resource (just check out our Instagram and TikTok).
It can also reveal a lot about the destinations everyone’s heading to right now. To find out exactly which cities are currently in vogue, Titan Travel has analysed three years’ worth of Instagram, TikTok and Google search data, from May 2021 to April 2024, and gathered all those stats for its new Social Travel Index.
Thanks to a staggering increase in interest of 165.64 percent over the last three years, a French city has claimed the top spot – but it’s not Paris, nor is it Marseille.
It’s actually (drum roll, please) Nice! Yep – the bougie beachside city on the French Riviera has over 94 million Instagram posts and more than 10 million TikToks under its belt, and while those figures are lower than London and Paris (which claim second and third place), that whopping increase in interest has earned it the highest social travel score of 8.42.
Two other cities in the top ten where interest has soared are Madrid (+171.85 percent) and Toronto (+205.94 percent). Check out the rest of the top 10 below, and maybe even compare with this ranking of the most popular city breaks this year.
The top ten most popular city break of 2024, according to Titan Travel
