Looking for the perfect appetizer? Make crispy onion cheese rings with this easy recipe that everyone is raving about.

If you’re like me and enjoy the crispy bits of cheese that gets baked in the oven or left in the air fryer you’ll love these crispy cheese onion rings.
I first found this viral recipe for baked crispy onion cheese rings on TikTok and knew that I had to make it.
What Are Onion Cheese Rings?
Onion cheese rings are thin slices of onion covered top and bottom with shredded cheese and then baked in the oven on low.
Once the onion cheese rings are cooled completely they are the most delightful crispy treat.
It’s easy to taste why this recipe went viral in the first place.
Simple Snacks or Appetizers Using Onions
Not only are onions budget-friendly this viral recipe can be used as a snack or it’s the perfect appetizer for your next dinner party.
Forget about opening a big bag of chips or eating your way through a box of crackers and opt for these baked golden onion rings.
Enjoy a batch of onion cheese rings naked, or make your favorite dip, mayo, or hummus for your guests.
I’ve also sprinkled Everything But The Bagel seasoning over top, paprika, and dry mustard to amp up the flavour game.
Honestly, you can add whatever spices you fancy. I might even try garlic crunch oil to add some kick.
If you’re making burgers on the grill use these as toppers or add them to your next salad for texture.
Type Of Onion To Use For Baked Crispy Cheese Onion Rings?
I’ve tested this recipe with white and red onions; however, I feel yellow onions will work just as well.
One important tip to remember is to slice the onions thin so they crisp when baked otherwise they will be soggy in the middle.
What Kind Of Cheese Can I Use?
Whenever I test a viral recipe I have to make it the way it’s depicted and add my personal twist.
I’ve made this recipe with shredded old and extra-old cheddar, freshly grated parmesan, pizza mozzarella, and Swiss cheese.
As long as you use a shredded cheese that melts and binds to the onion it should work fine.
Tips For Storing Leftovers
Never cover them up, especially when they are cooling or they will also go soggy.
You can also use an air fryer or barbeque to make these easy onion snacks.
If you have leftovers, pack them in a container and air fry, or put them in the oven on low to crisp the next day.
How To Make Baked Crispy Onion Cheese Rings
We have a muffin top pan, which I used to bake the onion cheese rings.
Doing so keeps them round like a chip, however you can use a baking sheet.
The idea is to ensure that the cheese is crispy around the edges and the onion is golden.
Unfortunately, the hardest part is letting them cool for 5 minutes or until they are firm and crispy.
I must warn you, they are addictive.
