Fall is here and we’re hitting the road! Next stop, Elora, Ontario – the province’s “most beautiful village”. This lovely village offers visitors some of the most wonderful natural surroundings, a charming downtown core and historic buildings, all perfect to explore during the fall season.

On a good traffic day, it can take you an hour and a bit to get to Elora from Toronto. It’s connected to the township of Fergus and usually shares a lot between the two.

They are both located at the connection of the Grand and Irvine Rivers.

Per Destination Ontario, Elora is known for the Grand River Raceway, the Elora Festival, and of course, the Elora Gorge, Fergus is known for its annual Fergus Scottish Festival & Highland Games, local shops and architecture.

And during the fall season, the two towns share responsibility in celebrating the unsettling, spooky annual holiday that is Halloween.

The annual Monster Month begins in October, transforming its historic towns into Halloween towns with spooky creatures around every corner.

For almost 20 years, Tim Murton’s Twilight Zoo has been handling the decor in Elora with a collection of lantern sculptures. Visitors from all over began to visit the town just to see them on full display.

“As popularity grew, local artists, community groups, businesses, and other organizations started adding themed events, leading to the name ‘Monster Month in Elora’,” shared the town.

Pumpkin Day, the Sensational Soup-off, Monster March and Spooky Stables are a few more experiences to look out for as the month progresses.

But besides the themed event, Elora transforms into a fall wonderland that can be explored via a number of its trails.

Looking for a hiking adventure? The Elora Cataract Trailway is a 47 km multi-use trail that “connects Elora to Forks of the Credit Provincial Park and also links the Grand River and Credit River watersheds.”

But let’s be real, if you’re a huge fan of all things spooky, this is the perfect time to visit Elora in Ontario. Not only will you capture the stunning fall foliage but you’ll get a good spook out of you too.
