Some of the most impressive infrastructure projects unfolding in Canada are happening right here in Toronto, including some notably colossal builds with price tags running into the billions.

ReNew Canada magazine has released its annual Top100 Projects Report, highlighting the 100 most significant public works projects underway in the country, and Ontario was very well represented on this year’s list.

For the 2025 list, ReNew has added 15 projects valued at a combined $22 billion, including a pair of prominent builds happening in the country’s most populous province.

In total, 42 of the country’s most expensive infrastructure investments are happening in Ontario, including 18 of the top 25 projects in Canada ranked by cost.

“Infrastructure is the backbone of our society,” said John Tenpenny, editor of ReNew Canada. “These projects don’t just build bridges, hospitals and transit systems; they build opportunities, improve quality of life and ensure our communities thrive.”

Transit remained one of the biggest players among infrastructure works, representing a staggering $121 billion in active spending of the total $300 billion in investment happening across the nation.

Among the major entries for Ontario this year are the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority Redevelopment at a cost of $1.8 billion and the Toronto Western Hospital Patient Tower at $1.1 billion.

Other notable entries present in the list include the $10.9 billion Ontario Line subway project and the $6.4 billion Gordie Howe International Bridge.

Over $153 billion, or more than half of the total $300 billion in infrastructure investments nationwide, are concentrated in Ontario.
