Vancouver is already a pricey city to call home, and it isn’t getting any cheaper. The city just announced that parking fees are set to increase in 2025, so you can expect to dish out a little more at the meter.
The City of Vancouver said in a release that the City Council “unanimously approved changes to parking fees and regulations to enhance traffic flow, reduce congestion, and better support customer experience and sustainable transportation throughout the city.”
By July 1 2025 there will be standardized fees to neighbourhoods around the city, something the city had tested out in Chinatown.
Another change outlined in the release is an increase in the lowest fee rate, taking the lowest parking meter fee from $1 to $1.50 per hour “to account for inflation and increased transaction and processing fees.”
There is some good news for your wallet though. The city also said that starting in 2016 pay parking on-street will end at 6 p.m. in some areas, with low occupancy and the lowest parking meter fees.
Vancouver’s Mayor, Ken Sim, said that “these changes aim to provide a more consistent and user-friendly parking experience across Vancouver.”
“By updating our regulations, we hope to improve access and convenience for residents, businesses and visitors alike,” Sim added.
