The report, “The Evolving Tourism Workforce: Human Capital Development in APAC,” was launched during the PATA Annual Summit 2025. It offers a detailed analysis of human capital across the region’s tourism sector and suggests actionable measures to empower the upcoming generation of tourism professionals.

PATA’s report highlights challenges, including attracting new talent, high turnover rates, skills gaps, and misalignment between workforce development and sustainability goals. The study also underlines the need for better collaboration among the public and private sectors, academia, and industry, especially in preparing the youth for the workforce.

Key findings from the report indicate a misalignment in expectations and policy development across various sectors and a disconnect between education and employment. The study also emphasizes the importance of leveraging the passion that drives many tourism workers without exposing them to exploitative conditions.

The report, authored by Pear Anderson, a member of PATA, was officially launched during a session titled “Unlocking Potential: Insights from PATA’s Latest Human Capital Report,” led by Pear Anderson Director, Hannah Pearson.

The comprehensive report, which took over a year to compile after extensive interviews, surveys, and analysis, is one of the most in-depth examinations of the Asia Pacific tourism workforce to date.
