Europe has Notre-Dame-Du-Pont and Africa has Mers Sultan, but where is the coolest neighbourhood in Asia? ’s annual roundup of the world’s coolest neighbourhoods has asked its worldwide network of editors and writers, and now we have the answer.

Pererenan, a spot which neighbours the heavily-touristed area of Canggu, still packs in a tonne of Bali’s easy-breezy charm, tranquil vibes and high concentration of warungs (Indonesia’s small cafés and businesses), without quite so many visitors.

There’s a prospering food scene here, too, with highlights including Kilo Kitchen, a Japanese-Indonesian fusion, and Brunch Club Pererenan, where you can sink your teeth into smoothie bowls and ‘porncakes’.

‘This place will remind you of what made Canggu famous in the first place – pristine beaches, cosy cafés, eclectic shops, and a certain laidback cool, devoid of noise and traffic,’ says Cheryl Sekkappan, ’s news and travel editor for Southeast Asia.

But across the continent, locals are spoilt for choice when it comes to cool places to hang out. Other Asian neighbourhoods that made the overall roundup include Seongsu-dong in Seoul, Gakugeidaigaku in Tokyo, Thao Dien in Ho Chi Minh, Ekkamai in Bangkok, Kowloon City in Hong Kong and Orchard in Singapore.
