Founded in 1978 by Phil & Chris Rose, Rose Family Estate produces the Wairau River wines. They are exclusively sourced from the family estate vineyards. The Roses, with their five children, manage and have full control of the production from the vine to the bottle.

The vineyards are located in the northeast of the South Island in the Marlborough Region, famous for wine growing, bearing the name of one of the longest rivers in New Zealand’s South Island.

Wairau River carries two lines: “Estate,” and “Reserve,” to be openws on more special occasions. They produced whites, rosés and reds.

While the Marlborough Region is known for Sauvignon Blanc, Wairau River has some of the oldest Pinot Gris vines in the region. The grapes are grown alongside the river, in the Home Block vineyard, the first vineyard planted by the Roses.

The grapes were harvested in the cool hours of the morning, then gently pressed. They were fermented in stainless steel vats, but to add texture and palate weight, a small parcel was fermented and aged in older French oak.

This pale gold-hued Pinot Gris reveals floral, green apple, pear and spices aromas. The palate is on the full-figured side with some creamy texture.
