Pokémon Go is having a Scorbunny Community Day event on Saturday, March 14 from 2-5 p.m. in your local time.

As expected with a Community Day event, Scorbunny will spawn in huge numbers with a high chance for it to appear shiny. There are also several other bonuses and perks, which we’ve listed out below.

How do I catch a shiny Scorbunny?

As per old research by the now-defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), shiny rates on Community Days are about 1 in 24, which means that if you keep playing throughout the three-hour window, you should find quite a few shiny Pokémon.

If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, you can pop an Incense, then quickly tap each Scorbunny to check for shiny ones, running from any that aren’t shiny. Notably, any Scorbunny you’ve already tapped will face where your player is standing, so that should help identify which ones you may have already checked.

If you evolve Raboot into Cinderace on March 14 from 2-9 p.m. in your local time, it will learn the charged move Blast Burn.

If you miss out on evolving it during this period, you will likely be able to evolve it during a Community Day weekend event in December to get Blast Burn. If you don’t want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to get the move.

In PvE content (raids and gyms), Cinderace is good, but it gets outclassed by a lot of other fire-type options, like Mega Charizard and Mega Blaziken, Blacephalon, Heatran, and Reshiram. It is the strongest non-legendary and non-Mega option among starters, though. If you don’t have other options, you can use Cinderace with Fire Spin and Blast Burn.

In PvP, Cinderace is just straight-up not good.

Cinderace also has a Gigantamax form, but the Scorbunny you catch during this event won’t be able to Gigantamax. It is the strongest fire-type Gigantamax Pokémon, so you can use this event to nab a bunch of Scorbunny Candy to power up your G-Max version, though. As a reminder, charged moves don’t matter much for Gigantamax, so don’t fret too much about using an Elite TM on any of your Gigantamax Cinderace to give it Blast Burn. If you want to increase its damage and use it both in regular content and Max Battles, you can use a Charged TM to give it Pyro Ball, a pretty strong specialty move that’s available permanently.

The following bonuses will be active during Scorbunny Community Day:

  • 14 hatch distance for eggs placed into Incubators during the event
  • Doubled candy for catching Pokémon
  • Doubled chance for level 31+ trainers to get XL candy from catching Pokémon
  • Incense lasts three hours
  • Lure Modules last one hour
  • Scorbunny special photobombs when taking snapshots
  • One additional special trade
  • Stardust cost halved for trading

That said, you should definitely shove your eggs into Incubators and try to catch a bunch of Scorbunny.

If you can Mega Evolve Charizard, Houndoom, Blaziken, or Camerupt, you’ll score additional Scorbunny Candy per catch. Using Primal Reversion on Groudon will also give you this bonus.

After the event ends until 9 p.m., Scorbunny will continue to spawn around placed Lure Modules, keeping the increased shiny rate during the event. If you miss out on the initial three-hour window, plunk down some lures, and you’ll be able to find Scorbunny.
