Pokémon Go is having a Sobble Community Day event on Saturday, July 4 from 2-5 p.m. in your local time. (If you’re US-based like me, no July 4 celebrations for you! Only lizards.)

As expected with a Community Day event, Sobble will spawn in huge numbers with a high chance for it to appear shiny. You’ll also get opportunities to find Sobble with special themed backgrounds. There are also several other bonuses and perks, which we’ve listed out below.

How to find a shiny Sobble in Pokémon Go

As per old research by the now-defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), shiny rates on Community Days are about 1 in 24, which means that if you keep playing throughout the three-hour window, you should find quite a few shiny Pokémon.

If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, you can pop an Incense, then quickly tap each Sobble to check for shiny ones, running from any that aren’t shiny. Notably, any Sobble you’ve already tapped will face where your player is standing, so that should help identify which ones you may have already checked.

If you evolve Drizzile into Inteleon from 2-9 p.m. in your local time on the event day, it will learn the charged move Hydro Cannon.

If you miss out on evolving it during this period, you will likely be able to evolve it during a Community Day weekend event in December to get Hydro Cannon. If you don’t want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to get the move.

This one can get a little complicated depending on what type of PvE content you like to do. All in all, Inteleon is strong across the board for raids and gyms. When you’re ignoring shadows, it comes sixth to Primal Kyogre, Mega Swampert, Mega Blastoise, Mega Gyarados, and regular Kyogre, according to Dialgadex. This means it’s the strongest non-Mega, non-shadow, non-legendary water-type attacker, so if you don’t have any of those, you should invest in a strong Inteleon. Give it Water Gun and Hydro Cannon for success.

Inteleon is also the best water-type Gigantamax in the game, but the versions of it you’ll be catching and evolving today aren’t Gigantamax-able. That being said, you should use your newly obtained boatloads of Sobble Candy to power up a Gigantamax Inteleon, if you have one. If you’re not into Max Battles, you can ignore all that, though.

For PvP, Inteleon is far too fragile to make a splash in any of the leagues.

Pokémon Go Sobble Community Day bonuses and tips

The following bonuses will be active during Sobble Community Day:

  • 14 hatch distance for eggs placed into Incubators during the event
  • Doubled candy for catching Pokémon
  • Doubled chance for level 31+ trainers to get XL candy from catching Pokémon
  • Incense lasts three hours
  • Lure Modules last one hour
  • Sobble special photobombs when taking snapshots
  • One additional special trade
  • Stardust cost halved for trading

That said, you should definitely put your eggs into Incubators, and pop an Incense and try to nab some powerful Sobble.

If you can Mega Evolve Blastoise, Slowbro, Gyarados, Swampert, or Sharpedo, you’ll score additional Sobble Candy per catch. Activating Primal Reversion on Kyogre will also have the same effect.

As with other Community Days this year, Sobble Community Day still has the lured PokéStop bonus. Any Lure Modules placed at PokéStops will spawn Sobble more frequently during the event, but also up four hours after the event ends. So, until 9 p.m. in your local time, you can still catch more Sobble (with their increased shiny rate) if you missed out on the event earlier in the day.
