Pokémon Legends: Z-A is the first mainline Pokémon game for the Nintendo Switch 2 (and the fourth for the regular Nintendo Switch), but, as it’s in the Legends series, it’s fairly different from your normal Pokémon experience. For this trip through Lumiose City, originally in Pokémon X and Y, you’ll need to rewire your brain and relearn everything you know about Pokémon battles as the classic turn-based combat has transformed into real-time battles. You won’t have much time to learn as the Z-A Royale has been sprung upon you, but don’t fret as our guides will make the challenge as simple as bonjour.
Now arriving, Lumiose City
As you get off the train, you’ll quickly realize that things are pretty different here in Lumiose City and you might need a refresher on how things work. There are no new typings in Pokémon Legends:Z-A, but you should always keep the type chart open as a handy reference tool. If you’re struggling to remember what typing a Pokémon is, our complete Pokédex will help jog your memory. Since you’re just getting started, don’t forget to claim your Mystery Gifts for some sweet goodies and use our beginner’s guide to assist you on your journey.
Find your favorite Pokémon
With 230 Pokémon to choose from in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you’ll need to make a lot of difficult decisions, like which starter you should choose, which Kanto starter to pick, or if they’ll even make the team at all. However, as Karen of the Johto Elite Four once said, “Truly skilled trainers should try to win with their favorites.”
Lumiose City has a lot of Pokémon to find and catch, and a hodgepodge of your favorite Pokémon will do the job! Personalize your team by giving your Pokémon unique names and changing their movesets.
