Pollinator garden, orchard being proposed for Guelph, Ont.’s Eramosa River Park – Guelph

The City of Guelph, Ontario is considering building a pollinator garden and orchard and is seeking community input.

The proposed garden will be located within the Elamosa River Park between the parking lot and the volleyball court.

In a news release, the city said it would not use the vegetable gardens to grow vegetables because there is no water source on the premises.

They say pollinator gardens and orchards promote biodiversity by providing additional habitat for wildlife such as insects and birds.

According to the city, the project will focus on growing pollinator-friendly plants, fruit trees, berry bushes of all kinds and culinary herbs.

The garden also provides an opportunity for volunteers to participate in planting and maintenance, fruit picking, seed sharing and plant-based herbal tea production.
