Popular breads recalled in Ontario for having pieces of metal inside

Some of the most popular brands of a regular pantry staple have been recalled in Canada for potentially having dangerous chunks of metal baked inside.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a warning to consumers on November 1 regarding a whopping 37 varieties of bread and buns that are being taken off of grocery store shelves in Ontario, Quebec, and Newfoundland and Labrador for containing “extraneous material.”

Varieties from Wonder, Country Harvest, D’Italiano, Great Value, No Name, and President’s Choice are among those affected — products many of us regularly consume.

Retailers like Giant Tiger and Costco had already voluntarily removed a handful of Wonder Brands Inc. breads from stores in response to a recall from Compass Minerals, which supplies salt for the brand.

The authority is advising people not to sell, serve, use, or distribute the affected foods, but to instead dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase.
