Movie theaters across the nation are facing mounting financial difficulties in their day-to-day operations. As less and less audiences turn out to see movies on the big screen, movie theater chains like AMC are laying out new cost-cutting initiatives to lure in prospective customers.

More recently, the globally renowned movie theater company formally announced plans to introduce half-priced movie tickets this coming summer. Starting July 9 and continuing on to every Wednesday afterward, theatergoers will be able to purchase tickets to new and highly anticipated movies for a fraction of the cost.

By implementing this strategy, AMC has said that they hope to entice new customers to their properties, as well as helping combat traditionally low theater turn outs for the middle of the week.

“Beginning Wednesday, July 9, and on Wednesdays thereafter, moviegoers can watch the newest releases on the big screen at 50% off the normal adult-evening ticket price each Wednesday, making movies more affordable and accessible for guests throughout the United States,” AMC said in their official statement announcing the plan.

To seize advantage of these new discounted ticket prices, customers must have an AMC Stubs membership. This membership account is free to use, allowing users access to significant exclusive offers, including free refills on large or reusable popcorn buckets, waived online ticket fees, and priority lane service.

Reflecting on the new change to their ticket pricing, AMC’s Chairman and CEO Adam Aron said that the new strategy coincides with the recent surge in theater attendance over the past few months.

“Realistically, we could not afford to have made this change to our ticket pricing strategy until the box office showed true signs of sustained recovery,” Aron said. “But in April and now in May, the box office has been booming, and the remainder of 2025 seems poised to continue that upward box office trend.”

In addition to cutting movie theater costs for Wednesdays, AMC also said that they’ll continue offering discounted pricing for Tuesdays: a long-running AMC initiative that many theatergoers have positively embraced.
