After over a decade of serving up some of North Toronto’s best barbecue, Stack BBQ at Yonge and Lawrence is closing its doors. In a heartfelt Instagram post, the Stack team shared the bittersweet news with their community.

“Our lease at 3265 Yonge St. is coming to an end, and despite our best efforts, we weren’t able to reach an agreement that met the needs of both our landlord and our own vision for the future,” the post reads.

While the closure marks the end of an era for the beloved smokehouse, the message is filled with gratitude and reflection on the incredible journey.

“What started as a passionate BBQ concept evolved into a second home to our community, creating unforgettable memories and relationships along the way,” the team shared.

Since opening in 2012, Stack has been a staple in the neighbourhood, known for its Southern Pride smoker, which could handle 500 pounds of meat at a time. Panos, who sharpened his barbecue skills under Ed “Fast Eddy” Maurin in Oklahoma, had a clear mission from the start: to serve high-quality food at reasonable prices. And alongside his partner Todd Savage, they delivered. From fall-off-the-bone ribs to a two-way beef brisket and pulled pork on a sesame seed bun, Stack was more than just another barbecue joint — it became a community favourite.

Even through the challenges of the pandemic, the Stack team remembers the outpouring of support from their customers. “The overwhelming response from our friends and neighbours was remarkable,” they wrote, recalling how busy they were during the toughest of times.

Although the Yonge & Lawrence chapter is coming to an end, the team made it clear that this is not goodbye forever. Stack’s Oakville location will continue to serve their signature barbecue, and they hinted at the possibility of finding a new Toronto location in the future.

“This isn’t goodbye, it’s ‘see you later.’ We’re actively searching for a new location in Toronto that feels just as right as Yonge & Lawrence did,” the post promises.

You can still grab a final bite at Stack’s Yonge Street location until they close their doors on October 23, 2024. In the meantime, for those missing their smoky ribs and pulled pork, the Oakville location is ready to welcome you with open arms.
