Thursday’s visit comes just weeks after Ottawa unveiled a new health plan, a 10-year contract worth $196 billion, following a meeting with the prime minister.

Nova Scotia Prime Minister Tim Houston, speaking after the Feb. 7 meeting, said it was productive and he was happy with the funding structure Ottawa was proposing.

The plan proposed $46.2 billion in new funding, including an immediate $2 billion addition to annual Canadian health transfers to provinces, to address the immediate pressure on the health care system.
