Princess Charlotte turned heads with her 10th birthday portrait, as the new photo broke royal tradition in a major way.

On Friday, May 2, Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s only daughter turned 10. The royal couple marked the special occasion as they do each year with the release of an official portrait on social media.

“Happy 10th Birthday Princess Charlotte! ❤,” the Prince and Princess of Wales captioned their Instagram tribute, crediting Middleton for the snapshot at the end.

In the photo, Princess Charlotte donned a camo jacket and what looked like a hydration vest while sitting in a grassy area near hills—seemingly on a hike. The young royal’s hair was pulled into a ponytail with loose pieces hanging in her face as she grinned at the camera.

The candid birthday portrait was a notable departure from the ones shared in previous years, as Charlotte typically wears a dress or a more formal outfit with her hair meticulously half-up or neatly down.

In the comments, royal fans showered Princess Charlotte with birthday wishes while in disbelief that she had already reached double digits.

One Instagram user wrote, “Happy 10th birthday, Princess Charlotte I can’t believe you’re 10 now. 😭🥹💓.”

Another echoed, “Wishing Princess Charlotte a very Happy 10th Birthday 🥳🎂💚. Can’t believe she’s already 10 but she’s so beautiful and adorable 💗.”

Yet another agreed, writing, “Happy birthday princess Charlotte, 10 already! She looks so grown up🥹🩷.”

Meanwhile, others couldn’t help but point out how much Charlotte resembles Prince William.

“Omigoodness her father’s daughter!” one follower declared.

“Happy Birthday Princess Charlotte! Looks just like her father ❤️,” someone else agreed, as another exclaimed, “Boy she looks just like her dad!’

Yet another pointed out, “The birthday girl is her father’s mini-me! 😍 😍 😍.”

In addition to Princess Charlotte, the Prince and Princess of Wales share two sons, Prince George, 11, and Prince Louis, who just turned 7.
