Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday awarded American action-film actor Steven Seagal, who holds Russian citizenship, a national medal.
The award of the Order of Friendship was announced on the Internet portal of the Russian government. This medal honors those whom Russia considers to have contributed to the improvement of international relations.
Seagal was a vocal supporter of Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014, and last year dozens of Ukrainian prisoners were reportedly killed in attacks Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of, Russia-controlled I visited the Ukrainian town of Olenivka.
In 2018, Seagal was appointed as the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Special Humanitarian Envoy to the United States.
