Fall is officially here, and Quebec’s weather is already switching gears. After an impressive 15-day dry streak, rain has returned to Montreal and much of the province, putting an end to the longest dry spell of the year.

According to The Weather Network (TWN), Quebec’s sunny, rain-free days have finally come to an end as rain showers spread across southern Quebec this morning and will continue throughout the day, with on-and-off rainfall expected through midweek. The arrival of this wet weather marks a noticeable shift from the warm, dry conditions that had us clinging to summer for just a bit longer last week.

Here’s what to expect from Quebec’s fall weather forecast for the first official week of the season.

The dry spell finally breaks

After more than two weeks without rain, Montreal and much of southern Quebec woke up to rain showers this morning. The region will see periods of off-and-on rainfall through Wednesday, bringing a widespread 15-30 millimetres of rain by midweek.

While that’s not a huge amount for fall, it’s enough to put a damper on outdoor plans after such a long stretch of sunshine.

Rain showers will continue today, tapering off later tonight and into Tuesday morning. Though Tuesday will be mostly dry, there’s still a chance of a passing shower later in the day. By Wednesday, steadier rain will make a return, likely impacting the morning commute in Montreal.

A warm end to September ahead

Even with all this rain, don’t put away your T-shirts just yet. TWN forecasters are confident that the last few days of September will still be much warmer than usual. A massive ridge of high pressure will build over Quebec and the Great Lakes by the end of the week, pushing temperatures well above seasonal for late September.

In western Quebec, temperatures could soar up to 15 degrees above seasonal norms, while southern Quebec will see highs that are 3 to 5 degrees warmer than usual. So, while the start of the week may feel chilly and wet, there’s a sunny, warm finish on the horizon.

Whether you’re bracing for more rain or looking forward to that late-week heat, Quebec’s fall weather is clearly going to keep us on our toes. Stay prepared for a mix of rain and sunshine as we head into the new season!
