Martha Stewart recently revealed that she and her family will be celebrating Thanksgiving a bit differently this year.
The home and hospitality expert, who is known by some fans as the “Queen of Thanksgiving” for her wildly popular recipes and entertaining advice, shared the sudden holiday shake-up during a visit to the Today show. While appearing on the popular NBC talk show on Thursday, Nov. 21, to share a fall holiday recipe featured in Martha: The Cookbook, her 100th cookbook released earlier this month, Stewart revealed that her Thanksgiving table will be missing its key centerpiece this year: the turkey.

“I have a lot of vegetarians in my family,” Stewart, 83, explained before introducing the ingredients used in her Brioche Stuffing-Filled Roasted Cheese Pumpkin recipe, a baked version of which she displayed on the show. “Although I raise my own turkeys, they have been pardoned this year.”
When asked for clarification on why she won’t be using one of her home-raised turkeys for the holiday next week, Stewart explained that the birds were pardoned “because we’re all going to eat only vegetarian.”
The lifestyle guru provided a bit more information about her holiday plans during a recent interview with Food & Wine that the magazine published on Wednesday, Nov. 20. Instead of sticking around at home for Thanksgiving, which falls a bit late this year on Nov. 28, she will be flying to Rome, Italy, to spend the holiday abroad.
“We’re having a little family excursion, where we will be eating pasta and white truffles,” she told Food & Wine. Despite her family’s planned Italian getaway, Stewart said she would spend some time baking before heading out of the country. Her version of celebrating Thanksgiving this year will involve “basically baking 40 pies for people who work for me,” she told the magazine.
