“Alright, I have a confession to make,” Van Ness said at the start of his latest TikTok video, confirming, “Yes, I am on a GLP1 or a weight loss medication.”
“If you have been following me for a long time, you’ll know that I’ve gained and lost weight several times very publicly,” the 37-year-old celebrity hairstylist explained while noting, “At this time in my life, I knew that I needed a little bit of extra help.”
“With everything I’ve been through publicly and privately in the last couple years, I had gained quite a bit of weight,” Van Ness admitted, adding that he “wasn’t feeling good” and his “binge eating disorder was out of control.”
“I was consistently making decisions that I regretted with compulsive eating and with binging that just left me feeling really not good, depressed and out of control,” he added.

After talking to his doctor back in September 2024, Van Ness decided to try out an injectable GLP-1 medication, which helps control blood sugar levels and has been found to regulate appetite.
After starting the medication, Van Ness said he remembered feeling “immediately better.”
“For the first time in my life, I have had control over my food intake. It has just helped me so massively,” he added.
As for why he decided to open up to his followers about his personal decision to use a weight loss medication, the TV personality said, “I know how important asking for help is and how much asking for help can change your life in terms of healing, and this time, I needed help.”
He also shared that he would be chatting with a doctor and answering more questions about weight loss drugs on the newest episode of his Getting Curious podcast.
Many of his fans were instantly supportive of Van Ness’ honesty and vulnerability in the new video, including one commenter on TikTok who wrote, “I love you for sharing this.”
“The food noise is real!” someone else wrote in the comments, adding, “There should not be any shame in taking these meds if they are needed.”
“Hearing this called a ‘confession’ broke my heart,” another user chimed in, telling Van Ness, “You don’t owe an explanation or an apology to anyone.”
