Roger Howarth Opens Up About Joining 'The Young and the Restless' and the Fans Who Keep Him Going

1 November 20252 Mins Read

Daytime Emmy winner Roger Howarth made his highly anticipated debut on The Young and the Restless this week, revealing that his new character is actually the return of iconic villain Matt Clark. In a new video shared by the official The Young and the Restless social media account, Howarth opened up about his motivation and appreciation for soap fans.

In the video, shared on the official The Young and the Restless Instagram account, Howarth reflected on his appreciation for soap audiences. “The fans of daytime television are the best fans that has ever walked the earth,” he said.

He went on to describe soap fans as “supportive, smart, and excited,” Howarth said their enthusiasm is what motivates the cast and crew each day “We all of us here have a little parking spaces and we do what we do so that they can enjoy it. All of them. I think that’s the most important thing about what we all do.”

Reflecting on his decades in daytime television, Howarth expressed his gratitude for his long career, “I got a chance to do it my whole adult life. I have had opportunities to try and please them and that doesn’t stop, ever.”

Fans React

Fans took to the comment section to show their support for Howarth and the show. One user wrote, “👏 Absolutely! No fans, like soap opera fans. I have my Emmy speech thanking Bill Bell, Agnes Nixon, and daytime for teaching and guiding my story telling as a writer, understanding that I have a platform to educate as well as to entertain. Make them laugh, make them cry, make them care.”

A second user added, “We DO enjoy every scene you’re in, @therealrogerhowarth !! Y&R IS LUCKY TO HAVE YOU. Haven’t watched this show for about 30 years, so I will be only watching you and @tamarabraun and @hayleyerin13 until I can piece things together 😆” A third user shared, “I am so freaking excited about you coming to y and r. I have missed you. Been watching since you started on one life to live,”

The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS and streams weeknights on Paramount+.
