Russia-Ukraine war: Key developments after a year of conflict

Friday 23 February is a solemn day for the Ukrainian people, when the Russian military will take over the country, which has remained independent since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. It marks the first year since the beginning of the invasion.

However, Russia met fierce Ukrainian resistance, and a year later the war continued, forcing Russia to withdraw from some territories (states) acquired early in the invasion.

Reports based on analysis of data collected by War Research Institute An American research group and think tank – estimates that Russia lost one-fifth of the land it once controlled in Ukraine after the invasion last February.

In this visual timeline, CTVNews.ca shows key developments in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
