Rust‘s August force wipe began alongside the launch of the highly anticipated Power Trip update, which will change up everyone’s game plan for the month. While it makes it easier for players to gain access to power and crude oil, it adds importance to monuments, giving a clear advantage to whoever takes control of Dome, Water Treatment Plant, Airfield, Launch Site, and Power Plant.

Rust launched the Power Trip update on Thursday. Fans were excited for this update, as they had kept an eye on the Staging Branch updates and commit logs, and knew that major changes were being made to the game. As soon as the update went live, players took a look at the store and noticed that besides the weekly cosmetics, they were finally able to get their hands on the Bar Games DLC as well as the Stone Sculpture. Now, they can use their cursor to edit a block of stone and make beautiful creations, or if they prefer to relax with friends, they can turn on the jukebox and engage in fun mini-games, such as pool, darts, and even tic-tac-toe.

After this, gamers rushed to the landmarks they knew would be important later on in the wipe, considering the recent changes, and started claiming their territory to make sure they could have an advantage over their enemies. These were modifications made to major landmarks in Rust:

  • Power Plant: Use Heavy Fuses to power up the Power Plant and unlock electricity all over the island. When all fuses are inserted, the Green Recycler will be back to 60% efficiency and operate faster, and Red Recyclers will be enabled with 75% efficiency.
  • Launch Site: Find an Aiming Module (previously known as MLRS Aiming Module), use the computer at the Launch Site, and make a satellite filled with loot come crashing down on the island.
  • Dome: If players power up the Power Plant and activate the switch at Small or Large Oil Rig, they will be able to extract crude oil at Dome using a Tanker vehicle. If they’re feeling confident, they can use the switch at both oil rigs and pumo more crude.
  • Water Treatment Plant: After powering up the Power Plant, players can visit the Water Treatment Plant, interact with the two gearboxes to place a gear inside each one, and turn them. Once the tank is full, water will flow, filling the various water pipes that can be found along the road.
  • Airfield: With the Power Plant running, gamers can enable the terminals at Airfield to increase airdrop fall rates on the island or summon a Chinook at the location.

These are the major changes that will greatly affect monuments. Besides this, players can get other perks simply by supplying some power to the Power Plant. By powering up some of the fuses at the Power Plant, they can turn on the freezer at the Supermarket to safely store their food and get electricity from the powerline poles with transformers.

Not everyone in the Rust community is happy with these changes, as some players believe that the August 2026 update caters to clans and large groups, leaving solos on the back burner. However, if players enjoy the game, it is worth logging on for this wipe and giving it a try nonetheless, as they might just be able to outsmart the clans and take advantage of the Power Plant’s electricity after they’ve used up their Heavy Fuses to power it up.
