Sean “Diddy” Combs could be behind bars at New Jersey’s Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institute for longer.
Combs—who was accused of (and acquitted on) racketeering and sex-trafficking and convicted on two counts of transporting people for prostitution—was given a 50-month sentence. Now, the 56-year-old’s prison release date has been pushed back by about a month.
Combs, who has been incarcerated since September 2024, was previously scheduled for release on May 8, 2028. However, the Bureau of Prisons’ website now lists his anticipated release date as June 4, 2028.
It’s important to note that the projected release date changed, not Combs’ judicial sentence. There is no named reason for the extension as of yet.

The Bureau of Prisons’ Office of Public Affairs’ Benjamin O’Cone told USA TODAY: “For privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not discuss the conditions of confinement for any individual, including release plans, timing, or procedures, or whether a particular individual is the subject of allegations, investigations, or sanctions.”
However, the news of the pushback comes on the heels of a recent TMZ report, which claimed that Combs had created and consumed alcohol in prison—a report that his team has since denied.
A spokesperson for Fort Dix also told USA TODAY that they would not be able to publicly disclose any information that pertains to internal inmate matters.
Juda Engelmayer, Diddy’s family spokesperson, told TMZ: “Mr. Combs is … focused on adjusting, working on himself, and doing better each day. As with any high-profile individual in a new environment, there will be many rumors and exaggerated stories throughout his time there—most of them untrue. We ask that people give him the benefit of the doubt, the privacy to focus on his personal growth with grace and purpose.”
Engelmayer also told NBC that Combs is “an active participant” in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP) and that he “has taken his rehabilitation process seriously from the start,” as he is “committed to positive change.”
Inmates who participate in the RDAP program can sometimes receive credits that can reduce their time in prison. However, inmates who break prison rules risk increasing their time in prison.
Combs, who was originally at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn and later transferred to New Jersey’s Fort Dix, a lower-security federal prison that offers rehabilitation help, had reached out to Donald Trump to request a presidential pardon in connection with his federal criminal case, Trump told CNN. In an interview with Newsmax, Trump called the pardon “difficult to do” after Diddy was “hostile” toward him.
At the moment, it looks like a losing battle for the Bad Boy Entertainment founder who transported people for prostitution. Only time will tell how much time Diddy does, depending on factors like good-conduct credits, his RDAP program participation, and his behavior behind bars.
