Shark Tank star Barbara Corcoran is spilling the tea on the unconventional way she got cast on the iconic reality TV show. The real estate agent turned “shark” was almost not cast as one of the show’s original experts — in fact, someone else was — but the business-savvy investor didn’t take no for an answer. That relentlessness led to her being cast on the show, which she says changed the course of her life.

In a post shared to her own Instagram account, the 76-year-old financial expert confessed she wasn’t originally cast in the iconic business TV show. Not willing to take no for an answer, Corcoran took matters into her own hands, writing the producers a convincing letter advocating to be cast on the show.

In the post’s caption she reflected, “Here’s the letter I sent to get on Shark Tank. The producer had already chosen someone else, but I wasn’t ready to give up. So I wrote him a list of reasons why I deserved a shot. That email got me the seat and changed the course of my life. Seventeen years later, I’m so glad I pressed send. Just a reminder, sometimes the door won’t open until you knock louder.”

Fans rushed to the comment section, creating a social media group chat in response to Corcoran’s bold overture.

One fan shared, “Legend. I did this when I got wait-listed for college, and I had all my favorite teachers sign in support. Offer was extended with increased financial aid. EVERYTHING is negotiable!”

Another added, “I am obsessed with you! THIS IS GOLD.”

Corcoran has been on Shark Tank since its first season in 2009. She has appeared in all seasons of the show.
