Sheinelle Jones is finally returning to her rightful place as one of Today’s correspondents.
After nearly nine months, the co-host of the 3rd hour is set to return to Studio 1A for the weekday broadcast this Friday, Sept. 5.
Her colleagues are certainly just as excited to see her again as her fans are. Back in April, Sunday Today host Willie Geist admitted that he “cannot wait to see Sheinelle again,” though he was content to be “giving her all the time she needs.”
How Long Has Sheinelle Jones Been Missing From Today?
Jones first stepped away from the staple morning show on Dec. 18, 2024, leaving fans to wonder if everything was all right. It wasn’t until the new year—January 15, to be exact—that the NBC anchor broke her silence, sharing with fans that she was “taking time to deal with a family health matter.”
“I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show,” she said, “It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today Show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me,” she said at the time.
Why Has Shenielle Jones Been Missing From Today for So Long?
Months later, on May 23, 2025, Jones’ colleagues revealed the extent of the family health matter after the tragic death of her husband, Uche Ojeh.
“With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our friend and TODAY co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma,” Savannah Guthrie announced with tears in her eyes. “There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him.”
Following his death, Jones shifted into “mom mode,” her colleague Dylan Dreyer reported during an interview later that summer. “She has three young kids that she has to care for. It’s a really tough time for the family.”
The couple shares a son, Kayin, 16, and twins Uche Jr. and Clara, 13.
For Jones’ part, she simply thanked fans once again for “all of [their] love and support” after Ojeh’s death was reported.

Ojeh, who was 45 at the time of his death, died following a battle with an incredibly aggressive form of brain cancer: glioblastoma.
Jones will speak out about the incredibly difficult time for her family in depth for the first time in an interview with Guthrie, which will air upon her return at the end of the week. Per Today, she will open up about how her children—eldest son Kayin and twins Clara and Uche—are “grieving the loss of their father,” noting the process has been a “beautiful nightmare.”
