Silent Hill f will continue the series’ tradition of providing multiple endings, each with their own interpretations, its creators say. And one of those endings will include nods to UFOs and aliens, just like many other Silent Hill games have. Whether an all-seeing, all-controlling shiba inu will be involved is not yet confirmed, though it would certainly be appropriate to the setting.
Players will experience one specific ending on their first playthrough, developers from Konami and NeoBards Entertainment said during a recent press event in Tokyo attended by Polygon. Silent Hill f writer Ryukishi07 noted that the game’s creators wanted players to experience a purposefully crafted story, then experience new perspectives on that story in subsequent playthroughs. Which ending players get on additional playthroughs will depend on the player’s actions and choices. Ryukishi07 said that it will not be “black and white which endings are good or bad.”
But the now-expected silly “UFO ending” will be among those endings. In an interesting twist, stories of space aliens and intergalactic wars are already woven into the narrative of Silent Hill f; protagonist Hinako Shimizu reveals early in the game’s story that she played a make-believe sci-fi story with her classmate Shu when they were younger. Insights into their games of alien space battles emerge as Hinako’s in-game journal is filled out over time.
To compel Silent Hill f players to revisit the game’s story more than once, Konami and NeoBards are including a New Game Plus mode in the game. New Game Plus runs will include expanded exploration, different boss battles, and new story developments told through new cinematics, developers said.
Silent Hill f will be released on Sept. 25 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
