Six Senses Comporta, part of the IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio, has announced its masterplan for a new resort, spa, and branded residences as a part of the 400-hectare Pinheirinho estate in Portugal.

Six Senses Comporta unveiled its master plan for a new sustainable resort, spa, and branded residences on the Pinheirinho coastal estate just a few miles south of Comporta, Portugal. The resort will be part of a select group of communities to be developed, adhering to strict aesthetic and sustainability guidelines.

Previously privately owned and accessible by invitation only, the 400-hectare Pinheirinho estate is predominantly a protected nature reserve of pinewood forest. Six Senses was chosen to develop a 70-room hotel and 58 branded residences, embracing a holistic, enriching lifestyle that aligns with the Six Senses hospitality ethos and signature offerings. The architectural design celebrates the landscape’s natural contours, with aromatic pine forests, tranquil lakes, and undulating sand dunes leading to a golden beach.

The 66 deluxe guest rooms and larger suites will be housed in the central building’s wings. Additionally, three garden villas and a presidential villa will bring the total number of hotel accommodations to 70. The 58 branded residences will range from two to five-bedroom villas and apartments, each offering a unique retreat experience informed by its position within the landscape—forest, Sand Dune, or Lake.

In addition to the resort’s amenities, residents will enjoy vibrant lobbies and a dedicated owners’ lounge. Six Senses CEO Neil Jacobs emphasized the importance of creating spaces that connect people to nature, a key principle of the company’s design approach.

The resort aims to encourage spiritual growth and healing with its mindfulness Path of Life, based on sacred geometry principles. This path will offer a resort and residence pathway and will include a dedicated children’s area with indoor and outdoor facilities. Along the path, the Earth Lab will run workshops promoting eco-friendly practices, and guests will experience a plastic—and harmful chemicals-free environment.

The dining venues will focus on seasonal ingredients provided by the on-site vegetable garden, aligning with the Eat With Six Senses ethos. The culinary experience will also feature a pool bar and grill, a wine bar showcasing the region’s best winemakers, a deli café and market stocking fresh produce, and The Chef’s Table, offering pop-up events and cookery classes.

The Six Senses Spa Comporta will offer wellness therapies and longevity programs. The spa will feature a gym, yoga studio, indoor/outdoor pool, steam and sauna, and hydrotherapy facilities. The Alchemy Bar, a signature Six Senses experience, will provide a space to create natural handmade spa products and gifts.

Six Senses Comporta is anticipated to open in 2028 as part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Luxury and lifestyle portfolio. It will join nearly 100 open hotels in Europe, including eight Six Senses properties.
