If you were over the age of 13 in the 2000s, your TV idol was likely the same as mine. Jersey Shore was the reality show, and Nicole Polizzi, better known as Snooki, was our queen.

These days, Snooki is following her other passions in life outside of the gym, tanning and laundry (if you know, you know) – the paranormal world. The TV icon’s latest show, Snooki: The Paranormal Rookie, follows Snooki (who has no formal paranormal investigation training) and her team to Canada’s most haunted locations as they uncover paranormal activity.

Joined by Kevin Whitaker, one of Canada’s foremost psychic mediums, occult expert and historian Missy Morrow and tech specialist Todd Thomas, the team works to teach and learn alongside Snooki as she attempts to become a ghost-hunting expert.

We had the chance to speak with Snooki and Kevin about the new show, their ghost-hunting essentials and which of her Jersey Shore co-stars is in the doghouse right now.

Q&A with Snooki and Kevin Whitaker

Q: This show is based around your lifelong passion and connection to the paranormal world. Can you [both] give us more insight into how the show came to be?

Snooki: Yeah, so I’ve been trying to do a show like this. I’ve been trying to sell it for years, and it finally got picked up three years later with Crave, so I’m super excited.

It’s always been a passion of mine —  the paranormal —  and I’ve always felt things, and not just like ghosties, but UFOs, aliens. I’ve had a lot of experience with the paranormal, so I was super excited to do this show, and it’s my passion. I met lifelong friends [too], so I’m excited.

Kevin: I’ve been doing this all my life. Yeah, since the earliest memories I have, I’ve been getting spirits and stuff. Professionally [I’ve been] a psychic medium for over 20 years, and delved into paranormal investigations about 30 years ago. So, I know a lot’s changed over time, but this is cool to be able to continue my passion with [Nicole] too. She’s like the queen of ghost hunting now, so it’s just brilliant.

Q: For both of you, when in your life did you first experience a paranormal encounter?

Kevin: For me, I would guess it was about three or four; as soon as my bedroom door would close, I’d get this set of eyes on the back of the door or a disembodied arm. And I had a harder time kind of processing the fact that these were spirits, so I thought it was just there to frighten me, so to speak. And the more comfortable I got with every encounter, the more I felt like I could embrace it. And through the exploration, I’ve had a career that I very much appreciate.

Snooki: Yeah. I don’t think I was seeing arms at three. That’s terrifying. So Kevin actually sees the spirit. I feel like I just feel it, and it’s just like, is that my own thoughts or is it somebody else’s? I feel things, and I always get touched, so that’s kind of like the whole point of the show is to test my abilities. But yeah, I felt things my entire life.

Q: When you are preparing to go ghost hunting, what are the essentials that you’re bringing? What do you need to have on you?

Kevin: Todd Thomas is our tech guy. So he loves to bring a REM pod that detects movement and EMF energy and stuff. K2 meters. Anything that measures temperature. We also have a meter that measures movement and static. It’s so creepy, but we’ve got some of the best responses. I was ready to toss the thing out [and that] it’s a gimmick. And then it’s suddenly firing off at some of these locations. It’s been incredible. But those are the essentials. We want to be able to provide evidence [for] what it is I say I see, or else it’s just kind of a “trust me bro” moment.

Snooki: So for me, I’m a rookie, obviously. So, I have a fanny pack. [But] before all of the investigations, I’ll meditate in my room so I can, you know, try and have my third eye open to feel things. So I meditate. I have a glass of wine, my spirit juice. And then in my bag, I have holy water that sprays, so I can spray myself to protect myself. I have lip gloss, and I wear my beads – protection beads. I wear them to all the locations, just like trying to protect myself because you never know what’s going to happen.

Q: We have to ask a Jersey Shore question, obviously. Which of your Jersey Shore co-stars would you want to bring with you the most on a ghost-hunting adventure? Who would be prepared for that?

Snooki: I feel like me and Jenni are obsessed with horror. And we love spookies. And you know, she directs horror movies. So I feel like Jenni, my boo, she would be the best. The worst would be Deena because she does not like any spookies. So yeah, I would say Jenny would be my girl to bring.

Q: Speaking of Jersey Shore, we saw that your friend Pauly D got recently engaged…

Snooki: I’m annoyed because he didn’t tell any of us. So annoyed. And we were like, hello? Because we’re all besties. So, why didn’t you tell us? There was no group chat message.

Q: Did you find out with the rest of the world?

Snooki: Yes! We were so annoyed. But, like, obviously so happy. And I never thought that that would actually happen because I feel like they were married already. But I know Nikki really wanted the whole ring and marriage, so I’m super excited for them.  But also annoyed that Pauly didn’t say anything.

Q: What is your marriage advice, if you could give him one piece?

Snooki: Don’t forget the dates. Even though you’re married, you’re still dating.

Kevin:I would say just carry a degree of patience and grace. Like some things, you don’t need to be right on; you just need to be able to come together and reconcile over differences.

Q: Spending so much time in Canada, did you find the people were as nice as everyone says we are?

Snooki: I love Canada. Yes, you guys are great. I would love dual citizenship.

Snooki: The Paranormal Rookie streams on Crave, starting Oct. 2, 2026.
