Over the month of September, Transport Canada shared more than 100 recall notices for vehicles sold in Canada, including ones made by some of the most popular manufacturers, such as Ford, Toyota, Chevrolet, Nissan and more.
These recalls affect over 260,000 passenger cars, SUVs and trucks sold across the country, which were recalled for a variety of reasons, many of which carry safety risks.
Transport Canada is offering guidance for those impacted by the recalls, stating that in most cases, manufacturers will inform owners directly and provide any further necessary instructions.
Here are just a few of the vehicles being recalled right now, as well as the details on what to do if your car is one of those affected.
Ford
Models recalled in September 2024:
Units affected in September 2024: 17,585
Details: Certain Ford trucks are being recalled due to issues with the rearview camera display, previous recall repairs not being completed properly, and flickering parking lights, all of which could increase the risk of a crash.
What to do: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise them to visit a dealership for software updates or necessary repairs.

Toyota
Models recalled in September 2024: 2023-2024 Toyota Corolla Cross
Units affected in September 2024: 5,585
Details: Some Toyota Corolla Crosses may experience reduced braking during turns due to a software issue, which could increase the risk of a crash.
What to do: Toyota will notify owners by mail and advise them to visit a dealer for a skid control software update.

Details: Certain Nissan Leaf EVs may experience overheating of the high-voltage battery during level 3 quick charging, which could increase the risk of a fire.
What to do: Nissan advises against using level 3 quick charging until the software update is completed. Owners will be notified by mail to bring their vehicle to a dealership for the update.

Models recalled in September 2024: 2019 & 2021-2024 RAM 1500
Units affected in September 2024: 158,670
Details: Certain RAM trucks may have a software issue that causes the electronic stability control system to stop working, increasing the risk of a crash.
What to do: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Canada will notify owners by mail and advise them to visit a dealership to update the antilock braking system (ABS) control module software.

Models recalled in September 2024: 2024 Kia EV9
Units affected in September 2024: 1,393
Details: Certain Kia electric SUVs may experience reduced braking while using the remote smart parking assist (RSPA) feature, which could increase the risk of a crash.
What to do: Kia advises against using the RSPA feature until the software update is completed. Owners will be notified by mail to bring their vehicle to a dealership for the update.

What to do: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Canada will notify owners by mail to visit a dealership for repairs. In some cases, the wiring harness and spare tire carrier assembly have already been replaced.
