Fans of Sofía Vergara are praying as the actress revealed a serious health scare that caused her to abruptly cancel her appearance on the red carpet at the 2025 Emmy Awards.
On Sunday, Sept. 14, the former America’s Got Talent judge, 53, took to Instagram with a concerning photo of her eye.

“Didnt make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER 🤣😩,” the Modern Family star captioned her update. “Sorry I had to cancel! Craziest eye allergie[sic] right before getting in the car!🤣🤣.”
For the featured image, Vergara’s left eye was extremely swollen and red, to the point where it was barely open. A clip also showed her lying down at the emergency room, followed by a video of her continually rinsing out her eye at a special station.
It’s unclear what, exactly, caused Vergara’s left eye to have the extreme reaction it did.
In the comments, Vergara’s followers showered her with well-wishes, concern and prayers.
AGT host Terry Crews wrote, “Oh no! Get well soon!🔥❤️.”
One Instagram user wrote, “Praying for a speedy recovery ❤️.”
Another shared, “Prayers for a speedy recovery. Eyes issues are so painful. 😘.”
A different fan echoed, “Feel Better Soon…🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏.”
Meanwhile, yet another Instagram follower pointed out, “Still pretty tho 🔥.”
In 2000, Vergara was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, an experience she opened up about in a 2022 Instagram post.
“At 28, ‘Cancer’ was not a word I expected to hear,” she wrote. “It was just a routine checkup. But the doctors found a lump in my throat, and that word became part of my story. I spent countless hours in radiation treatments, and, eventually, in surgery. Today, I get to call myself a cancer survivor.”
Next to a photo of herself behind a camera with a visible scar on her neck, she continued, writing, “This was my first acting class after diagnosis and treatment, and seeing the scar on my throat reminds me of how blessed I felt that day — and every day since.”
She concluded, “I’m lucky and grateful to be in a position to share my story and say: Early prevention is so important!! Schedule your annual check up for this year if you haven’t already 😘 #worldcancerday #closethecaregap.”
Although it’s a bummer that Vergara had to miss the Emmys, hopefully she has a smooth recovery!
