Star Wars Zero Company, which you may know as “that XCOM Star Wars game,” finally has a release date, publisher Electronic Arts announced during Friday’s Summer Game Fest showcase. It will be released Aug. 27 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, confirming leaks from earlier in the week.

Also: Anakin Skywalker is in it? Uh, sure, why not?

First announced in April 2025, Star Wars Zero Company is the debut game of Bit Reactor, a studio comprised of developers who’ve worked on series like Civilization and XCOM. That pedigree is immediately apparent in Zero Company, which shares obvious structural similarities to XCOM: a turn-based tactical shooter in which you return to a high-tech hub between missions on your quest of defeating an alien threat. Plus, like that series, Zero Company will also feature permadeath, meaning if a member of your squad dies in battle, they’re dead for good — the story moves on regardless.

Zero Company takes place during the Clone Wars, and casts players as an ex-Galactic Republic officer named Tesh Hawks, who leads a crew of misfits (the titular Zero Company) who are just distinguished enough from Star Wars central casting to merit personailities and dialogue. Zero Company is hired by the Republic to track down a volatile Separatist splinter faction. The game’s Summer Game Fest trailer showed more members of Hawks’ crew — including a Mandalorian and a Jedi Padawan — in between snippets of tactical combat and stat-tinkering menus. At the end of the trailer, a “General Skywalker” shows up and ignites a blue lightsaber, suggesting the game is set before the events of Revenge of the Sith.

According to a news release, Zero Company will feature more than 150 planets from the galaxy far, far away. Beyond the core band of misfits, players will be able to customize recruitable characters, known as “operators,” as either humans or as one of seven Star Wars races: Devaronian, Neimoidian, Ovissian, Togruta, Twi’lek, Weequay and Zabrak. And yes, these operators will have Star Wars-ass names. One example from the trailer? Roggar Ven.

Star Wars Zero Company will be released Aug. 27 for $49.99 on Windows PC and $59.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
