Suspect in attack on CBC journalist surrenders to police

A suspect wanted in connection with the death of a longtime CBC journalist was arrested and charged with manslaughter after turning himself in to police.

Douglas (Michael) Finlay, 73, was pushed to the ground on the afternoon of January 24 while walking down Danforth Avenue near Jones Avenue by an unknown assailant who fled the scene.

Finlay was later discharged from the hospital, but died on 31 January due to deteriorating health as a result of injuries sustained during the assault.

A few days later, Toronto police announced that a warrant had been issued for 43-year-old Toronto resident Robert Robin Cropia Redwolf in connection with the attack.

Cropearedwolf turned himself in to 52nd Division police on Tuesday and was charged. He appeared in court on February 28th.

Police previously stated that Finlay and Cropia Red Wolf were unknown to each other.

“It’s like a chance encounter,” Det said. Jason Hillier said earlier this month.
