Feb. 14 is Valentine’s Day, and this local winter festival has all the activities to fill your heart’s desire. Escape the winter blues and cozy up for a free festival that’s equal parts fun, equal parts mesmerizing.
Located in the city of Airdrie, just outside Calgary, Cabin Fever is a free, winter-themed festival packed with indoor and outdoor fun across two locations. Enjoy musical performances from local artists, roving puppets, a craft station, face painting, Indigenous games and teachings, and fireside treats.
Finish it all up with a horse-drawn wagon ride through the woods, and you’re talking about one of the most magical dates you can dream up this Valentine’s Day. Here’s what else you can expect at this free, outdoor, family-friendly event.
Classic Canadiana
If you’ve yet to enjoy a warm maple taffy treat rolled out on fresh snow, this festival will bring all that sweetness to you. There will also be fireside treats, giving this winter festival a classic Canadian ambiance.
You’ll want to bundle up for horse-drawn wagon rides through the snow, and get curious about cold-weather experiments offered by Telus Spark. You can also enjoy a Backyard Play program designed to experience the joy of spontaneous outdoor fun.
On top of all the fun for adults, there’s plenty geared towards the kiddos as well. Puppets Walter the Great White Wapiti and a whimsical white rabbit will be roaming the event, brought to you by local company Green Fools, and there will also be face-painting and family-friendly musical performances. Color Club will be on-site, offering on-site portraits that capture the moment for you and the whole family.
Indigenous teachings
Local Indigenous leaders will share traditional teachings, and you’ll also have the opportunity to take part in interactive games that highlight culture, connection and community. It’ll all take place at Nose Creek Regional Park, located on traditional lands of the people of Treaty 7 territory.
