Target is bringing back one of its most popular back-to-school items this year, and we can only imagine how fast it will fly off the shelves.

The nationwide department store chain announced this morning that it would keep its 2024 prices on most back-to-school items this year, offering special deals and discounts for verified students and teachers who are also Target Circle members.

But the brand kind of buried the lede, so to speak, because paragraphs into that announcement is confirmation that Target’s viral $5 backpack would be making a grand return again for the 2025 back-to-school season.

Last year, the school bag was offered in a variety of colors and patterns fit for users of all ages, which became a quick, highly-rated hit with shoppers. Now Target is trying to do it all over again with its 2025 release.

“This is such an important time for everyone preparing to head back to class — or heading off to school for the first time,” Rick Gomez, executive vice president and chief commercial officer, Target, said in a statement. “The Target team will be there for families by holding last year’s prices on key school supplies and standing tall for unrivaled style, quality and exceptional value.”

The returning favorite back-to-school essential is also bringing with it a few new additions to Target’s “value-priced lineup,” including notebooks starting at $0.35, composition books starting at $0.50, and lunch sacks at $3.

Target also said it would be keeping most of its 2024 pricing on a majority of the most essential back-to-school and college items, as well as offering other exclusive discounts to verified students and teachers who are also Target Circle rewards members.

“We’re proud to be a part of back-to-school and back-to-college traditions,” Gomez added, noting the company couldn’t be prouder to provide “everything needed to get the new school year off to a great start.”
