Taylor Swift is in Vancouver next week & will be welcomed with these fan-organized surprises

Taylor Swift is back in Vancouver next week to cap off her iconic Eras Tour, and fans are ready to welcome her with open arms and friendship bracelets galore.

Determined to show their appreciation after a whopping 149 shows, over 20,000 fans have come together via the official Vancouver Eras Tour Facebook group and Vancouver BC/Swifties group to end the tour on a high note.

This includes three fan projects for each of the Vancouver shows, allowing concert attendees to participate in giving Taylor a big ‘welcome,’ ‘thank you,’ and a birthday sendoff to remember.

Local fan Joss McMillan first worked on a website for Night 2 in Vancouver, preparing fellow Swifties for an exciting, interactive project that will have the whole stadium involved.

After requests came through for fan projects of the other nights to be included, McMillan revamped the website.

“The Facebook group has internal chats for each night where projects were discussed,” they tell Curiocity. “For Nights 1 and 2, there were polls to see which ideas were the most popular. For Night 3, the idea of singing “Happy Birthday” had everyone onboard from the get-go!”

Fan traditions

So, how does it work? McMillan explains that at every Eras Tour show, Taylor reminisces about once wondering whether she’d ever get to play “Champagne Problems” live, as it was released during the pandemic.

The fan tradition of taking a moment following this song to show their appreciation started around March 2023, and has continued ever since.

In Vancouver, this means that each fan project will take place after Taylor sings “Champagne Problems,” to carry on the beloved tradition.

What to expect at each Vancouver show

On Dec. 6, fans are preparing to chant “Welcome to BC, we’ve been waiting for you” to the tune of her song, “Welcome to New York.”

On Dec. 7, attendees can create a magical moment for Taylor and her team by opening a coloured screen depending on their stadium section.

Immediately after she sings “Champagne Problems,” she will remove her earpiece, signalling fans to raise up their phones. The plan is to chant “thank you” over and over along with the stadium.

On the final night on Dec. 8, fans will band together to celebrate Taylor’s upcoming birthday (December 13th). After singing “Champagne Problems,” Swifties will count down from 13 and sing “Happy Birthday” when they hit “1.”

About the organizers

In an interview with Curiocity, the organizers reveal their favourite Eras and Taylor Swift songs from over the years.

Among the most mentioned are “All Too Well (10-Minute Version),” and songs from the Red and Evermore albums.

“It’s our first Eras Tour show, and for most of us, it will be our first time seeing Taylor Swift live,” they share. “We’ve definitely enjoyed watching the Eras Tour movie and the many live streams.”

For fans who didn’t luck out in the ‘Great War’ on Ticketmaster, organizers say, ‘be kind to yourselves.’

“Try to attend the Taylor-themed events that are happening in Vancouver, as this doesn’t happen often!”

Another organizer comments on how difficult it has been for longtime and newer Swifties alike. “I know this tour is iconic, but she will be back with a bigger and better experience soon. There are lots of live streams from amazing people that are so fun to watch!”

“You’re still a true Swiftie even if you couldn’t make it.”

For those who are attending one of the Vancouver shows next week, organizers say, “soak in every moment.”

“The energy, the music, and the incredible community of Swifties around you—it’s truly special. Make lasting memories, sing your heart out, dance like nobody’s watching, and appreciate every note.”

“Take as many pictures and videos as you need to remember it, but remember to be present. Make friends, hand out so many bracelets. Do whatever you need to do to feel in the moment!”

Taylor Swift-themed festivities

Caitlin Zietsman, who also helped organize Night 2, tells Curiocity they’re most excited to check out the Capilano Suspension Bridge the week of the concerts.

“I look forward to Canyon Lights every year—it’s such a magical experience, and this time, it’ll be even more special with Taylor’s music playing and the Friendship Bracelet bridge, which adds an extra layer of fun and connection,” they share.

“I’m looking forward to going to see the signs around downtown Vancouver and trying the Tayor friendship bracelets cocktail at Rosewood Hotel Georgia,” says Linda Shaw, organizer of Night 1.
