Taylor Swift is known for her signature red lip color but doesn’t have a go-to ‘do. That said, there is one thing she’ll never let just any hairstylist do.

In a newly resurfaced video from an interview documenting one of her cover shoots with Seventeen years ago, the pop superstar revealed that with time and experience posing for magazine covers and photo spreads, she’s gotten a lot more relaxed about her expectations. But, at the time of the conversation, there was at least one rule she felt the need to enforce–and given her statements, she’s probably still standing by it today.

The video began with a young Swift seated in the stylist’s chair with rollers in her hair as the group discussed her getting ready process with the camera, which took about two hours between her hair and makeup.

While speaking with the interviewer, Swift admitted she “used to get really fussy about” how she was styled and even suggested there were times she turned options down because they weren’t “cute.”

“But now I just go in and I’m like, ‘Put whatever you want on me. Just do whatever it is that you want to do to my face; you want to put paint polka dots on it, you can do that,” she joked. “You want to make my hair big, make it small, cut it–no, I’m kidding. They don’t cut my hair.”

“That’s like the one thing that they’re not allowed to do,” she added. “Because the hair is the power source. I have nothing without it.”

Instead, the only people allowed to chop her blonde strands are the members of her longtime glam teamm which include stylists Jemma Muradian and Joseph Cassell. Muradian and Cassell also work closely with makeup artist Lorrie Turk, and the trio has been responsible for the many red carpet, awards show and event looks rocked by the Eras Tour artist for several years.

It seems as though the 34-year-old Grammy winner’s loyalty to the opinions of one stylist has rubbed off on her NFL star beau, Travis Kelce, as recently he’s been experimenting with some aesthetic changes himself trusting only his longtime barber and pal Patrick Regan with executing the stylish cuts.
