As Trump’s policy decisions begin to impact restaurant workers who are immigrants, the price of food — especially eggs, had a measurable impact on street vendors in New York and wine imports in California, Texas diners seem ready to vote with their wallets. On January 31, a thread in the /houston subreddit appeared to source a list of non-Trump and MAGA restaurants. The original poster wrote, “I won’t be supporting those who support President Felon and his attempts to destroy our country.” The OP cited Taste of Texas as an example of the type of business they’re trying to avoid, alleging that its owners, Edd and Nina Hendee, are “rabid Republicans” (they pointed to the fact that Edd had a conservative talk radio show).

The thread eventually turned into Redditors vetting or outing various businesses, including Trump’s pick for Italian ambassador Tilman Fertitta, the CEO of Landry’s Hospitality Brands, which owns several national chains, including Rainforest Cafe, Bubba Gump Shrimp, Del Friscos, Joe’s Crab Shack, Landry’s Seafood House, Morton’s the Steakhouse, the Palm, Saltgrass Steakhouse and many, many, many more. Several smaller businesses got a namecheck for having Trump memorabilia or signs on display, according to the anonymous Redditors.

That post links back to a discussion in the /sanantonio subreddit with the same question, yielding a more positive list of restaurants and chefs who have supported Democratic candidates, basic human rights, or been publicly anti-Trump.

After the Houston post, Redditors in /denton grabbed and reshared it, seeking the same recommendations in their city. It, too, ended up as a collection of comments identifying locally owned spots with owners who allegedly held Trump parties or own Tesla Cybertrucks, among other more serious allegations.

A post made its day to /dallas also, but it has been deleted.
