Carel Struycken looked nearly unrecognizable when a photographer spotted him during a recent public outing in Southern California.

The Dutch actor, who is perhaps best known for starring in the Addams Family movies, was photographed in a Trader Joe’s parking lot on Tuesday, Dec. 10, in Los Angeles, Calif. The Daily Mail obtained copies of the photos and later published them on Saturday, Dec. 14.

In the photos, Stricken, 76, was dressed casually in a light gray zip-up jacket, black sweatpants and a pair of brown shoes. Tall white socks could be seek peeking out between the tops of his shoes and the ankles of his sweatpants.

The images taken during Struycken’s trip to the market showed him holding a black walking pole in one hand as he walked away from the store while pushing a red shopping cart full of groceries. Though his gray-green bucket hat and dark sunglasses made it initially difficult to tell that the man photographed was Struycken, subsequent snapshots showing the actor with his sunglasses removed revealed more of his features, making his identity much clearer.

Once he had stored his groceries, Struycken was photographed climbing into the driver’s seat of a white vehicle. See the photos here.

Struycken famously played Lurch in 1991’s The Addams Family. He reprised his role in the sequel films Addams Family Values (1993) and Addams Family Reunion (1998). Around the time that fans were introduced to Struycken through the first film, he also began appearing on Twin Peaks as the Giant. He returned to the Twin Peaks universe in 2017’s Twin Peaks: The Return, though he played the Fireman in the sequel series.

In addition to his more famous roles, Struycken also appeared in 1987’s The Witches of Eastwick alongside Jack Nicholson. He later had a recurring role in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
