Why Add Ramen Noodles in an Omelet

Think of ramen noodles as an extra filling agent. When mixed with eggs, they create a heartier texture while still allowing the omelet to stay soft and fluffy. Plus, ramen’s slightly chewy consistency makes every bite of omelet feel more substantial. What’s more, the ramen seasoning packet adds an instant burst of flavor which means you won’t have to reach into the spice cabinet for extra seasonings.

A pack of instant ramen is super affordable, making this a great kitchen trick for stretching your cooking budget.

How to Make a Ramen-Stretched Omelet

This hack is as easy as making a regular omelet—you just swap out some of the eggs for cooked ramen. Here’s how to do it.

In a small pot, boil the ramen in 1/4 cup of water instead of the usual full cup. You want the noodles to be slightly undercooked and not too soupy—just soft enough to mix with the eggs. Drain any excess water.

In a bowl, beat the eggs with a pinch of salt and pepper. If you want an extra boost of flavor, mix in half of the seasoning packet from the ramen. Add the cooked ramen to the eggs and stir well, making sure the noodles are evenly coated in the mixture. Heat butter or oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Pour in the egg-noodle mixture and let it cook undisturbed for about 2 minutes, or until the edges start to set. Sprinkle in any toppings you like then gently fold one side of the omelet over. Cook for another minute or so, until the eggs are fully set and the cheese is melted. Transfer the omelet onto a plate and dig in!
