The Boox Palma 2 is coming soon, and you can pre-order it now

The phone-sized Boox Palma was one of 2024’s most trendy tech products, and now a follow-up is coming soon. The Palma 2 improves on the original, although it’s not messing with what was already working. It’s still an Android device that aims to reduce distractions and screen time with its two-tone ePaper screen. Most people who bought one saw value in having a pocket-friendly e-reader instead of buying a bigger Kindle, and since the Palma 2 is launching at $279.99 — $30 more than the original model is currently selling for — you’ll soon get a little more bang for your buck.

The Palma 2’s display is unchanged from its predecessor at 300 PPI (pixels per inch), with the ability to shift between cool and warm color temperatures to make it easy on the eyes. What’s new for this device is a fingerprint sensor that’s embedded into the power button, letting you and no one else unlock it. The other improvements may be less noticeable for those who solely read books, but are nevertheless appreciated, including the upgrade to Android 13 and a faster octa-core CPU. Since you can use apps downloaded through the Google Play Store, speed boosts will only make the Palma 2 a more suitable companion moving forward. As for eBook and document compatibility, it supports a ton, including PDF, CBZ, EPUB, MOBI, and many more.

For now, the Palma 2 is available to pre-order exclusively through the Boox website. The “Flip-fold Protective Case Bundle” costs $279.99 in either black or white, and it’ll ship around Nov. 12.
