The Bower Coronado, a new 39-room boutique hotel, aims to redefine luxury hospitality on Coronado Island by transforming a historic Japanese tea garden into an elegant coastal retreat.

The Bower Coronado has opened its doors on Coronado Island. This intimate 39-room hotel aims to set a new standard for luxury, blending the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi with California coastal elegance.

Located near California’s iconic beaches and downtown San Diego, The Bower Coronado features include its modern design, intuitive service, tailored experiences, and the island’s first and only rooftop bar and restaurant, Dive.

Sean Murphy, the General Manager of The Bower Coronado, believes that the hotel’s debut marks a new chapter for the community. Every aspect of the hotel has been carefully designed to create a welcoming and exclusive environment. The Bower Coronado aims to provide guests with a distinctive experience, allowing them to explore San Diego as locals rather than mere visitors.

The Bower is a product of an eight-year development journey led by San Diego-based real estate firm J Street Hospitality. The hotel hopes to transform the historic site while preserving Coronado’s distinctive character.

The Bower Coronado aims to redefine the traditional hotel experience by fostering genuine personal connections instead of transactional interactions. The hotel’s hosts work meticulously to design personalized experiences for guests, ranging from tennis and pickleball reservations to surf lessons and golf tee times.

The hotel’s architectural narrative reflects the site’s past as John D. Spreckels’ Japanese tea garden. The design incorporates minimalist elements, clean lines, and organic materials such as limestone, patinated metals, and artisan woodwork.

The guest rooms are designed to evoke a sense of tranquility and luxury. They have premium amenities such as Stearns & Foster mattresses, Frette robes, Le Labo bath amenities, and Dyson hair dryers.

The hotel’s rooftop bar and restaurant, Dive, offers a distinct dining experience. The menu includes fresh seafood, shareable plates, and elevated takes on dive-bar favorites. The venue provides panoramic views and serves as a gathering place for locals and guests.

The Bower Coronado now accepts reservations, with room rates starting at $579.
