A city’s nightlife, cultural spaces and food scene are all vital to its personality, but the bedrock of the best cities on the planet is an efficient and affordable transport system.
That’s why just published its list of the best public transport networks in the world, based on a survey of 18,500 locals who were asked to describe theirs, and eight cities from across Europe claimed a spot in the 19-strong roundup.
The first of these, where more people than anywhere else in Europe described transport as ‘good’ or ‘amazing’, was London! Public transport in the UK capital garnered a positive response from 86 percent of participants, which is all the more impressive because the Underground is the oldest network of its kind in the world.
However, that’s far from the only way to get around the Smoke. London boasts the shiny-new high-speed Elizabeth line, 675 different bus routes, 30,000 Lime bikes and newly-rebranded Overground which has six lines in operation. Comprehensive, eh?
Vienna came in second place, with its ‘cheap, frequent, fast, clean, efficient’ transport system getting an approval rating of 84 percent, and Zurich came in third, with a solid 81 percent of locals rating public transport highly. Check out the rest of the European entries below.
