According to a study conducted by Future Partners, the emerging travel trends of Slowcations, Foodie Trips, and Experiential Travel are gaining traction among American travelers. Slowcations, which emphasize a leisurely and immersive travel experience, appeal to 57% of American travelers. This trend encourages travelers to spend more time at their destination, engaging with the local culture, environment, and community.
Similarly, Foodie Trips, travel experiences centered around exploring destinations known for their food and drink, appeal to 57% of American travelers. These enthusiasts actively use social media channels to plan their trips at nearly double the rate of other travelers.
Experiential Travel, which involves immersive, hands-on experiences connecting travelers with a destination’s culture, history, or environment, appeals to 56% of American travelers. This trend aligns with travelers’ top priority in 2025: spending time with friends and family.
Plan-Free Travel, Sleep Tourism, Gig-Tripping, and Solo Travel are other emerging trends that appeal to a significant segment of American travelers, ranging from 39% to 48% of respondents. These trends reflect diverse interests and needs, including the desire for spontaneity, wellness, music-related trips, and solo adventures.
On the other hand, climate change-related travel trends such as Doom Tourism and Coolcations appeal to a smaller segment of the population, 26% and 36%, respectively. Doom Tourism involves traveling to destinations threatened by environmental or other factors, while Coolcations are vacations in cooler climates or during off-peak seasons to avoid extreme heat.
