The Genius Sticker-Peeling Trick We Wish We'd Known About Sooner

Buying any brand new item is exciting, but if it has adhesive labels stuck to it, you’re apt to ruin your manicure peeling those stickers off—especially if an item is plastic.

There are plenty of hacks to remove stickers and labels from glass items like jars, bottles or candles: You can heat it for 30 seconds with a hairdryer to melt the glue, which is very quick and effective. You can also soak a glass or metal item with a stuck sticker in hot soapy water for 10 to 15 minutes. Glass jars and items with stickers can also be soaked in vinegar.

Alternatively for metal or glass, you can try soaking a cotton ball, paper towel or rag in rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover and keep it sitting on the sticker for 15 minutes to dissolve.

Depending on what the item is and its individual care instructions, you can also pop some of them in the dishwasher, which can use its magical combination of suds, water and heat to make them easy to remove (and sometimes dissolve them entirely).

But getting stickers off of plastic? That’s trickier! You don’t want to use heat, which can leave plastic misshapen or melt it, as can water that’s too hot. Rubbing alcohol, vinegar and nail polish remover may potentially remove designs from plastic, so you’ll want to approach that method with caution. Thankfully, there is a genius trick to removing stickers from plastic without shredding your own nails.

Easy Sticker-Peeling Trick for Plastic

In a video with more than 8 million views, Byers says her mom (who she called an “angel” in the comments section—aw!) taught her this hack to get PVC stickers off of plastic.

Grab a piece of regular old tape that’s longer than the sticker you’re trying to remove. Stick half of the tape onto the tag. Rub the tape onto the tag to make sure it’s adhered completely.

Then, pull the loose end of the tape to “wax” off the sticker.

You’ll even be able to reuse the same piece of tape to remove other stickers in the same sitting!

TikTok commenters are pretty obsessed with this trick.

“Finally!! especially when you trying to give people gifts and don’t want them to know you bought it cheaper at ross and not at the Nike store,” one joked.
