The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts has acquired a 71 all-villa property in Coorg, Karnataka, near Madikeri. The property spans 76 acres and will be unveiled as The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary later this year. The resort is IGBC Platinum-certified and will have a total of 90 villas after a first-phase expansion. The property includes four dining venues, a 27,000 sq. ft. wellness centre, a 7-acre lake, and a private helipad. The Leela portfolio now comprises 15 properties with over 4,160 keys across 13 cities globally, with 9 hotels in the pipeline.
Location
The property is situated in the Western Ghats near Madikeri, Coorg, and is close to Bengaluru and Mangaluru. The area is noted for coffee estates, hills, waterfalls, and Kodava heritage. The location is described as having high air quality and is positioned as a leisure destination in South India.
Development
The acquired resort is IGBC Platinum-certified and designed to blend with its natural surroundings. The property will undergo a first phase of development that will add 19 villas, bringing the total inventory to 90. The resort features four dining venues offering global and regional cuisines, as well as coffee experiences tied to the region’s plantation heritage. A 27,000 sq. ft. wellness centre will offer services based on Ayurvedic tradition, modern recovery science, and the brand’s wellness programme. Additional features include a 7-acre lake, a private helipad, and a four-bedroom presidential villa with a private pool and integrated wellness facilities.
Timeline
The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary is scheduled to be unveiled later this year. Over the coming months, the property will integrate The Leela’s brand standards, service rituals, and distribution before commencing operations under its new name.

With the addition of the Coorg property, The Leela portfolio now includes 15 properties with over 4,160 keys across 13 cities globally. This comprises 7 owned, 7 managed, and 1 franchised hotel. There are 9 hotels in the pipeline, with plans to expand to 24 properties over the next three years in markets including Agra, Ayodhya, Bandhavgarh, Mumbai, Ranthambore, Sikkim, Srinagar, and Jaisalmer.
