Japanese matcha has officially made its way into everything from lattes to desserts, and now Lindt is giving the trend a chocolatey twist.
Becoming one of the biggest food trends of the moment, the earthy Japanese green tea powder is showing up everywhere. Lindt is leaning into the craze with a Tokyo-inspired twist, pairing matcha with strawberry in a limited-edition bar that’s already generating buzz.
The iconic chocolatier is teaming up with fashion designer Joe Ando for a special pop-up in New York City today, where it will debut its new Tokyo Style Matcha Strawberry Chocolate Bar. The Lindt x Joe Ando Strawberry-Matcha Pop-Up takes over the Lindt Chocolate Shop in Midtown Manhattan on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 3 to 6 p.m., giving fans a chance to sample the limited-edition chocolate and get a first look at Ando’s new fashion collection inspired by it.
Ando, known for his distinctive designs and social media presence, created a capsule collection of three dresses inspired by the new bar. The pieces will be on display at the event, and Ando will be there to meet guests.
There will be plenty to taste, too. Visitors can sample the Tokyo Style Matcha Strawberry Chocolate Bar and enjoy a complimentary iced matcha from Japanese tea house Nana’s Green Tea while supplies last.
The timing couldn’t be better. The new bar combines Lindt’s chocolate with matcha and strawberry flavors, tapping into the growing popularity of Japanese matcha as a food and beverage trend.
For New Yorkers looking to get in on the craze, the pop-up runs from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the Lindt Chocolate Shop at 7 W. 34th St., between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. Guests can also RSVP to the event online. No tickets required – just stop in for a matcha made in heaven.
