When last we saw Peter Sutherland, he had saved the life of the president of the United States and had earned the right to become a full-fledged night agent for Night Action in the hit Netflix series The Night Agent, inspired by Matthew Quirk‘s 2019 eponymous novel.
Now, Season 2 will once again see Peter taking on the enemies of the United States as he investigates potential traitors and terrorists in the 10-episode season.
“We learn through the book that Peter’s a very moral guy, a very principled guy, and he’s going to do the right thing,” showrunner Shawn Ryan told TV Line. “So, we endeavored hard in Season 2 to try to make it much more difficult for him to know what the right thing to do was, to struggle with that. We see that it sickens him to tell a lie, but he has to do it for the greater good. Taking a very principled character and putting him in a job that is very morally queasy was something that felt like a good evolution in Season 2.”

What is The Night Agent about?
The Night Agent, inspired by Matthew Quirk‘s 2019 eponymous novel, is the story of an “off-the-books” program under the direction of the U.S. president that investigates cases that traditional intelligence agencies aren’t set up to handle. Peter Sutherland is a low-level FBI Agent, who worked in the basement of the White House, answering the emergency phone line that never rings, until it did and started him on his journey.
Has The Night Agent been renewed for Season 3?
The spy drama was renewed ahead of Season 2’s return and began production in Istanbul at the end of 2024 before returning to New York in 2025.
“We’re so excited that our fans will get to watch Season 2 of The Night Agent in early 2025, and we’ve been hard at work writing Season 3 to deliver more breathless Peter Sutherland Night Action adventures to our rabid audience,” creator Shawn Ryan told Tudum.

To compound the problem, there are two separate enemies this season. One involves terrorists and the United Nations and the other leads to the White House and sets Peter up nicely for the already picked-up Season 3.

How did Season 1 of The Night Agent end?
